CO2 Calculator

Calculator of Equivalencies between CO2 Tons and Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases (F-gases)

A calculator to translate the kilograms of cooling gas from the equipment into their equivalent CO2 tons, without any previous calculation. This tool calculates the gas equivalencies based on their GWP 100 years, which come from the ARG4 – Fourth Assessment Report – IPCC.

You just insert the kilograms, select the kind of coolant and the calculator will display the equivalent CO2 tons. This is a great help to classify the equipment in the companies. The equivalent CO2 tons is the amount of an F-gas, expressed as the result of multiplying the weight in tons of the F-gas by its global-warming potential (GWP).

Once the equivalent CO2 tons have been calculated, you can classify the equipment in your organization and thus schedule the regularity of the leakage controls established by the Regulation 517/2014 on fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-Gas Regulation).

  • Stationary cooling equipment.
  • Stationary air-conditioning equipment.
  • Stationary heat pumps.
  • Stationary fire protection systems.
  • Cooling units in refrigerated trucks and trailers.
  • Electrical equipment.
  • Rankine cycles with organic fluid.

In accordance with the F-Gas Regulation following do not have to control leakages:

  • Los aparatos sellados herméticamente que contengan gases fluorados de efecto invernadero en cantidades inferiores a 10 toneladas equivalentes de CO2, siempre que tales aparatos lleven etiquetas que indiquen que están sellados herméticamente.
  • Electrical equipment will not be subject to leakage controls if one of the following conditions is met:
    • the leakage index, obtained by a test, in lower than 0,1 % per year, by the manufacturer’s technical standards, and it is labelled accordingly;
    • the equipment has devices to control pressure or density; or
    • the equipment has less than 6 kg of F-gases.
